The dynamic partnership of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern brings a unique mix of musical influences to their sound. "Hey Homie" perfectly captures their synergy, combining light and airy pop elements with emotionally resonant lyrics about a love that remains unfulfilled but deeply felt.
“'Hey Homie' is one of our favorite songs on the album. It represents both of us in that Soph has always wanted to make bossa nova and Tuck has always wanted to make drum and bass, and we managed to do both with this one," the duo explains. "It's about the kind of love that is never 'realized' and it never necessarily becomes romantic. It's bittersweet and beautiful.”
The music video, directed by George Gallardo Kattah, pays tribute to the duo's unique friendship, celebrating a special bond that transcends romance.
BREAD, an acronym for “Be Really Energetic and Dance,” promises to immerse listeners in SOFI TUKKER's vibrant world. Featuring special guests like Kah-Lo, MC Bola, and Channel Tres, the album includes standout tracks such as “Throw Some Ass,” which has already amassed 12 million streams, and “Spiral,” featuring Heidi Klum in the music video.
Recorded globally, particularly in Brazil, *BREAD* reflects the duo’s deep connection to Brazilian culture. “Brazil is like a member of the band,” says Tucker. Sophie’s fluency in Portuguese adds an authentic layer to their music, enriched by their time spent in the country.
The album cover, shot by visual artist Rob Woodcox, features Sophie in a custom gown made entirely of bread, photographed in front of the ornate Palácio das Laranjeiras in Rio de Janeiro.
