Academy Events is thrilled to unveil the highly-anticipated return of internationally acclaimed Roots Reggae sensation Protoje, accompanied by his ensemble, The Indiggnation, for a captivating 4-date tour across the UK in Spring 2024.
The tour kicks off at O2 Ritz Manchester on March 28th, followed by O2 Academy Bristol on March 29th, O2 Institute Birmingham on March 30th, and culminating in a grand finale at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town on March 31st. General sale tickets for all dates are available starting today, December 15th, at 10 am GMT via ticketmaster.co.uk.
Having recently enchanted audiences throughout Europe this autumn, Protoje is eager to reconnect with his dedicated UK fanbase, promising an unforgettable night immersed in the rich tapestry of traditional roots reggae, infused with his contemporary twists on one drops, steppaz, boom bap, and one-two beats. The setlist will showcase incendiary live performances of his beloved tunes spanning across his illustrious catalogue of seven albums, including the reggae anthem favorite, ‘Who Knows.’
Protoje, the Jamaican roots reggae visionary, seamlessly blends influences from hip hop, soul, and jazz with the authentic sounds of reggae and dancehall. Rising to prominence as a crucial figure in the 'reggae revival' movement, Protoje gained widespread recognition for his infectious melodies and socially conscious lyrics.
His independent breakthrough in 2011 with the album ‘The Seven Year Itch’ and the track ‘Rasta Love’ featuring Ky-Mani Marley marked the inception of a remarkable journey. The game-changing hit ‘Who Knows’ featuring Chronixx in 2015 propelled Protoje into international acclaim, earning praise from renowned publications such as Vogue, i-D, Rolling Stone, and The Fader.
Subsequent chart-topping hits solidified Protoje's standing in the global music scene, with albums like ‘A Matter Of Time’ (2018), ‘In Search Of Lost Time’ (2020), and ‘Third Time’s The Charm’ (2022) becoming pivotal moments in his artistic evolution. His collaborations with Jorja Smith, Alicia Keys, Wiz Khalifa, Pa Salieu, Popcaan, and Koffee further showcase the artist's versatility and cross-genre appeal.
In 2018, Protoje established his label and management company, Indiggnation Collective, reflecting his commitment to artistic independence. His latest album, ‘In Search Of Zion,’ released in November 2023 via RCA Records, continues to echo Protoje's evolution, featuring a remix album created in collaboration with production collective Zion I Kings, reimagining his 2020 release, ‘In Search Of Lost Time.’
Expressing his anticipation for the upcoming UK tour, Protoje stated, “I love the UK, and British fans are my people. They always follow me and come to my shows every time I come back. Come see me; a Protoje show is not just any stage show. I’m looking forward to seeing you all, soon come.”
