Following the success of his previous single "Triptronic," Prido is ready to shake things up and get everyone ready for the summer with this fun and hypnotizing new release. Produced by JK, with a video filmed and edited by Youfilms and photography by Laatreche, "DND" promises the usual Prido vibes and more. We’re excited to dive into Prido’s creative process, his thoughts on the new single, and what’s next for this dynamic artist.
1. "DND" blends Afrobeat, Amapiano, and Dancehall. How did you approach merging these genres to create a dynamic and energetic track, and what inspired this fusion in your latest single?
I like my music to have a nostalgic feel and dancehall was a big part of my life growing up. Every birthday party or carnival i would hear the likes of Benie man, Vybez cartel etc so that Caribbean sound culture was embedded in me. Later on when i had matured in life and began to understand my African heritage whilst living in England. Afrobeats then Amapiano made a surge and i fell in love with the sounds. It was a no brainer to mix all three sound elements whilst creating DND. Funny enough the produce is Manchester local lad called Josh haha talk about a blend of cultures.
2. The song "DND" reflects a narrative of frustration and determination. Can you elaborate on the story behind the track and how you used music to convey the emotional journey of the protagonist?
DND meaning Do not disturb is a narration of what the majority of us have all been through when it comes to relationships. Lob sided relationships, one is in it for love and the other for material gain. The story is about a passionate lover having enough of being let down at every given opportunity that does not involve spending money etc. Moving on with his/her life and blocking the other partner who only wants them only when its beneficial for them.
3. Your previous single, “Triptronic,” had a different vibe compared to "DND." How do you see the evolution of your sound with this new release, and what do you hope "DND" adds to your growing discography?
triptronic is a controversial record taking aim at the biased and some corrupt governing bodies of Great Britain so the sound was more grimey and semi aggressive because i wanted to set the tone from the get go. I believe my music is and will always be ever changing as i grow and receive new information. I look at it like seasons of the year, same body but different motions. DND is a mellow summer vibe to ease the tension brought by Triptronic haha
4. You’ve mentioned that "DND" is designed to get listeners ready for the summer. What elements of the song do you think will make it a standout summer anthem, and how do you plan to connect with your audience through this track?
I get messages about how people love DND because the message is relatable and the elements used to make the song are easy on the ears. The sound pattern makes it easy for you to fully dance or just have a nod whilst spring cleaning your house or getting ready for a heavy night out haha . The amapiano logs are just amazing for anyone with an acquired taste for urban ethnic sounds. I plan to connect with the audience by being truthful in my sound. Its spiritual.
5. With your recent success and upcoming festival appearances, including The Great Escape, how are you preparing for your live performances this summer? What can fans expect from your festival sets and your headline show?
A great performance i believe comes from practicing and analysing past performances. I have been rehearsing and sharpening these moves for the last few weeks haha , my Gamilee can expect energy and vibes throughout the show. The music blends alot of genres so the set is always fun as the emotions go up and down as we go through the discography. All i can say is expect an organised madness
