Pirate Studios and Small Green Shoots Launch £180K Studios For All Fund

In an exciting new initiative, global rehearsal studio network Pirate Studios has teamed up with cultural youth organization Small Green Shoots to launch the Studios For All Fund, a groundbreaking £180,000 program aimed at supporting at least 120 charities and organizations across England over the next three years. Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, this partnership is set to empower disadvantaged, marginalized, and vulnerable individuals through music, providing them with invaluable access to studio time.

The Studios For All Fundwill allocate a significant amount of studio time, enabling organizations to engage their communities and create transformative experiences through music, dance, and media. By focusing on inclusivity, the initiative aims to break down barriers faced by emerging, independent, and diverse talent, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to explore their creativity.

“We are overjoyed to be working on the Studios For All program with Pirate Studios and The National Lottery. Gaining access to affordable studio time can be a real challenge, especially for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. This program directly addresses those barriers and provides a solution,” said Makeda Mcmillan, Managing Director of Small Green Shoots. “We are excited to have our young Shoots involved too!”

Building on the success of a pilot partnership launched in 2021, which provided over 800 young people with 7,500 hours of studio time, the Studios For All Fund will further expand its reach. Pirate Studios operates more than 700 facilities worldwide, including DJ studios, band rehearsal spaces, recording studios, dance studios, and podcast studios, making them a leader in providing accessible creative spaces.

David Borrie, CEO of Pirate Studios, emphasized the initiative’s importance, stating, “At Pirate, we believe that having access to music studios can genuinely change lives. Through the Studios For All Fund, we’re excited to help charities, CICs, and organizations give disadvantaged individuals the chance to explore music, art, and creativity in our studios.”

Starting from October 7, 2024, the fund will facilitate an inclusive environment where arts charities can effectively conduct their vital work. Additionally, the program will create pathways for disadvantaged young people to enter the music and creative industries by onboarding three trainees from Small Green Shoots for 12-month secondments, providing them with paid training to help manage the initiative.

In an effort to celebrate the talent fostered through this scheme, Pirate Studios and Small Green Shoots will also host an annual showcase, allowing participants to display their creative achievements to the community.

Charities, community interest companies (CICs), and organizations interested in applying for the Studios For All Fundcan do so by visiting Pirate Studios' website and completing the online application form. Applicants are encouraged to outline their plans for using the studio hours to benefit their communities, detailing the initiatives they will run and the positive outcomes they expect to achieve for marginalized groups.

With this groundbreaking initiative, Pirate Studios and Small Green Shoots are paving the way for a more inclusive and accessible music landscape in England, empowering the next generation of creative talent and fostering a strong sense of community.
