Lifesize Teddy Drops 'POISN': A Deeper Dive into the Soul of Contemporary African Music

In a groundbreaking move, the rising star Lifesize Teddy, recently signed to Africa's premier record label, Mavin Records, has unleashed her sophomore EP, 'POISN,' on November 2, 2023.

A departure from her high-energy debut, 'POISN' delves into a more subdued and introspective realm, offering a profound exploration of Lifesize Teddy's distinctive universe. The EP comprises five tracks, a collaborative effort with producers Sevn, Andre Vibez, Sparrq, Shakez Baba, and Papi Gonzo.

At just 23 years old, Lifesize Teddy, known for her roles as a rapper, singer/songwriter, and poet, takes a bold step toward vulnerability in 'POISN.' The EP navigates themes of grief, sexuality, happiness, and introspective reflections on her recent journey. Explaining the metaphorical title, Lifesize Teddy states, "‘POISN’ is not something harmful; it's an antidote for those seeking a well-rounded artist who refuses to be pigeon-holed."

The EP's lead single, 'Unbeliever,' produced by the GRAMMY-nominated Sparrq (known for his work with Davido and Ayra Starr), serves as a revelatory and prophetic Afrobeats anthem. Addressing doubters in the musical landscape, the track emphasizes the power of self-assurance. Lifesize Teddy remarks, "It’s okay to be an unbeliever, but there’s enough time for them to buy in."

'POISN' follows Lifesize Teddy's self-titled debut EP from August, which garnered critical acclaim for its fusion of Hip-Hop, Alternative R&B, afro-pop, electronic, and alte sounds. Standout tracks like 'Hypnotic,' 'Butterflies,' and 'Air' earned praise from notable publications such as NME, Music Week, COLORS, and more. The EP also secured Lifesize Teddy a spot opening for fellow Mavin Records artist Ayra Starr on the UK leg of her '21: The World Tour.'

Born in Rivers State, Nigeria, and raised in Bonny Island, Port Harcourt, Lifesize Teddy draws inspiration from a diverse musical background, including artists like Eve, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, and Lucky Dube. Raised by an English literature teacher and unpublished author, her musical journey began with poetry before she embraced rap.

Lifesize Teddy's trajectory into Mavin Records started with an Instagram interaction with Ladipoe in 2018, leading to her opening for him. In 2020, she officially joined Mavin Records' artist development academy, where she underwent extensive grooming in live performance, media coaching, songwriting, choreography, and more. Graduating into the label's star-studded roster, Lifesize Teddy is positioned as a disruptor and a force to revolutionize contemporary African music.
