Liam Gallagher and John Squire Announce Collaboration with "Just Another Rainbow" Single
Iconic frontman of Oasis, Liam Gallagher, and legendary Stone Roses guitarist John Squire are joining forces, bringing fans the highly anticipated collaboration titled "Just Another Rainbow." The duo has spilled the beans on their musical venture, promising not just a single but a full album and more.
Scheduled for release on January 5, 2024, "Just Another Rainbow" offers a psychedelia-infused experience, blending Squire's guitar genius and songwriting prowess with Gallagher's classic vocal style. Fans can already pre-order the track on 7” vinyl and pre-save it for an immersive journey into their musical synergy.
John Squire shared insights into the single, stating, “To me, the most obvious take on Just Another Rainbow is that it's about disappointment, and the sentiment is that you never get what you really want. But I don't like to explain songs, I think that's the privilege of the listener, it's whatever you want it to be. To me, it's also one of the most uplifting tracks we’ve made together, which is weird.”
Liam Gallagher added his praise for Squire's songwriting skills, saying, “I think John's a top songwriter. Everyone always bangs on about him as a guitarist, but he’s a top songwriter too, man, no two ways about it as far as I'm concerned. There's not enough of his music out there, whether it's with the Roses or himself. It's good to see him back writing songs and f***ing good ones. The melodies are mega and then the guitars are a given. But I think even when you take all the f***ing guitars off, you can play the songs all on acoustic and they’ll all still blow your mind.”
The collaboration has been in the works for some time, with Gallagher hinting at a supergroup in September 2022. Following interviews and teasers, fans were thrilled to learn about a recorded album that Gallagher boldly claimed to be "the best record since [The Beatles'] Revolver."
A website, gallaghersquire.com, was unveiled, encouraging fans to sign up for more details. The duo teased their partnership with a video featuring throwback footage and nods to their respective musical journeys, including a moment at Knebworth in 1996.
This collaboration marks a significant moment for both artists, with their musical connection tracing back to a 1989 Stone Roses gig attended by a 16-year-old Liam. Despite different paths, their friendship endured, leading to shared musical endeavors and, ultimately, the decision to hit the studio together.
Venturing into John Squire's Macclesfield studio, the duo demonstrated an impressive work ethic, completing vocals for two demo recordings daily. The creative synergy continued during a three-week session in Los Angeles, with acclaimed producer Greg Kurstin on bass and Joey Waronker on drums.
As the excitement builds around "Just Another Rainbow," fans can anticipate not just a single but a full-length album from this powerhouse collaboration, promising a musical journey that feels as natural as if they had always been a band. Stay tuned for more details and the possibility of live shows from this dynamic duo.
