JANN's upcoming album transforms the landscape of contemporary pop
Meet JANN, one of the most unique and atmospheric artists making waves in pop music right now. With millions of streams, sold-out shows across Europe, a tour with Madison Beer, and over 630K monthly listeners on Spotify, his rise this year has been nothing short of meteoric.
On October 11th, Jann released his breathtaking new album, I Store My Fear and My Pain in the Nape of My Neck. A seven-track masterpiece that blends classical influences with modern pop, this album pushes the limits of the genre with soaring melodies, intricate soundscapes, and Jann’s extraordinary four-octave vocal range.
As he prepares for upcoming shows in London and Manchester, Jann is solidifying his place as one of pop’s most exciting new voices. We’d love for you to interview him for Babystep Magazine about his latest project!
In This Heart
The entire ‘Universal Mother’ by Sinéad O’Connor had a huge impact on me. It shaped me into the artist I am today. To me it’s a perfect album in every aspect. This song has a special place in my heart. I also recorded it for my A-Levels.
NAO- Bad Blood
This track and the rest of ‘For All We Know’ made me wanna experiment with production. Nao’s voice is so special and unique and along with all the electronic production it felt so elusive. I couldn’t quite put a finger on it or find anything that sounded like it. I started looking and trying to recreate some of the sounds in Logic. And that opened the world of production to me and the endless possibilities of it.
I once didn’t believe in having one favourite song, but this one might just be it. It’s been with me since I was 16 and it just always works. Every situation, every mood, it’s just perfect to me. Also, the music video is perfect. It’s just one of those videos that enhance the experience of listening to the song, serves an additional purpose, adds another layer.
Caroline Polachek - So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings
I’ve been obsessed with Caroline Polachek for some time now and her music had a big influence on my latest album. The production on her songs is so smartly used to help create worlds and tell stories. How she so masterfully and effortlessly uses and controls her voice is out of this world. She’s just one of a kind.
Bonobo- Cirrus
Bonobo was my first introduction to electronic music when I was I think 17. I’ve never heard anything like this before. I loved how trancey it was. How it made me feel. How it was produced, built, executed. Often without any lyrics or vocals which to me as a singer was the center of composition at the time. It challenged my approach.
