From bedroom beats to club anthems, XEER is fast becoming one of the freshest names in UK house. At just 23, the Woking-born producer and DJ is already carving out a sound that nods to the golden era of 2010s house while pushing things forward with modern energy and flair. With collabs, label drops, and a string of standout singles under his belt, he's proving he's not just here to ride the wave—he's here to shape it. We caught up with XEER to talk roots, releases, and what’s next.
Your sound blends nostalgic UK house elements from the 2014–2017 era with modern production techniques. What draws you to that era specifically, and how do you keep the balance between old-school influence and fresh innovation?
To me, when I was younger, listening to tunes like "I Wanna Feel" by SecondCity, "House Every Weekend" by David Zowie and "Say To Me" by WHTKD really resonated with me — just how creative you can be with a short vocal and how you can articulate it to create a full catchy dance tune. I carry those inspirations into my modern productions using current trends while staying true to my original sound. You can always tell when I’ve had my input on a track — just something about how my brain works with melodies. I can chop vocals to make them say anything sometimes.
Your track “Take The Love” channels classic M1 organ sounds, while your more recent releases like “Tell Me” and “Need 2 Know” show clear evolution. How would you describe your growth as a producer from 2022 to now?
I’ve always stayed true to that deep UK house sound, but I like to keep it interesting sometimes. Recent tracks like "Tell Me" have incorporated more plucky sounds — I’ve always had a soft spot for plucks, reminds me of old Avicii, Calvin Harris, WHTKD, DubRocca, XYconstant. That old niche sound doesn’t really stick around much anymore, so I guess part of it is trying to bring it back into the light. Saying that, "Need 2 Know" blends elements of UK House with the ever-growing Speed Garage / UKG scene.
You’ve already collaborated with names like Ben Rainey and HRMV, and received support from big hitters in the scene. How do those collaborations shape your creative process — and who would be your dream collaborator moving forward?
Collaborating with other artists was something I feel I neglected early on — maybe when I was learning my craft I just forgot, not sure. But HRMV (Harry McVay) has become one of my closest friends in the industry over the past 2 years, and hearing the technical skills he’s brought to our tracks really helped my sound evolve. I’ve learned to collaborate more and experiment a lot more along the way.
My dream collab? Tough question — I reckon MK. But if I could, 100%, Avicii. I feel like he’s one of those producers who inspired so many people to start producing. Ask anyone in the industry if he’s had an impact on them — 9 times out of 10 they’ll say yes. But yeah, current day, definitely MK. He’s always been an inspiration since I got into house properly.
BBC Introducing has been backing your music regularly. How important has that platform been for your exposure, and what track do you think best represents who XEER is right now?
BBC Introducing has been really helpful in showing me I can do it, and that my tracks can get recognition by radio heavyweights. I think it’s one of the first steps to hopefully one day ending up on Kiss or Capital. They’ve always supported my stuff, and it just shows — especially in the early days (not to say I’m still not on the grind), but it showed me I was on the right path.
Ultimately, I just want people to have a good time listening to my catchy earworms and bass-driven tunes. My goal is to DJ — I just haven’t had the right gig for it yet. The track that best represents where I’m at right now is probably "Need 2 Know" — a bit more experimenting with different genres but still staying true to my sound.
With a solid catalogue already under your belt and growing recognition, what’s next for you? Are there any upcoming releases, live shows, or new directions we should be watching for in 2025?
I’ve got a lot of unreleased tunes ready to go, loads of new ideas and plans to DJ. It’s more of a confidence thing for me and finding the right event to apply for I guess. These days I feel like they always look at socials — followers, all that. I don’t have a manager either, so it’s just me navigating it all.
Ideally I’d love to do a house gig focused on piano house, deep house, UK house… but then again I also like drum and bass, so sometimes I find it hard to get a foot in the door when I enjoy blending styles. If anyone can help a boy out with a gig that would fit — let me know.
