Introducing: Since2000

BabyStep Magazine

Glasgow’s pop-metal trio Since2ooo are rewriting the rules of heavy music, fusing razor-sharp riffs, anthemic choruses, and genre-blurring production into something entirely their own. Think the intensity of Bring Me The Horizon, the brooding atmosphere of Bad Omens, and the precision of Architects—but with a fresh, unapologetic twist. Led by vocalist/producer Dan Antonio, alongside guitarist Ben Main and drummer Reuben Selman, Since2ooo doesn’t just play music; they create moments of chaos and catharsis. With their latest release on the horizon, we sat down with the band to talk evolution, experimentation, and why the future of metalcore belongs to those who dare to break the mold.

Let me know if you want any tweaks!

Your sound blends early 2000s alt-metal with EDM, pop, and even movie soundtracks—how did you land on this mix, and what draws you to these influences?

I guess our sound just developed naturally over a long period of experimentation. We were trying different things out, aiming to blend different genres we like together in a way that felt cohesive and that gave them synergy. For me it was about taking my favourite aspects of each genre and making them feel at home together; taking great and catchy pop melodies, the energy and danger of rock, the dance-ability and euphoric vibe of electronic music or the swagger of hip hop. The concept of a song lyrically and the energy we want it to put across can also inform what stylistic decisions we make on any given a song.

Your debut EP neverland, chapter I dropped in March 2024—what story or themes are you exploring in this release?

I see that EP very much as a coming-of-age story. Each song deals with a significant life experience which has taught me an important lesson about myself or the world. Whether that’s through experiences of grief, falling in love, toxic relationships or times when I’ve been at my lowest. When reflecting on these experiences I always think to myself “What can I take away from this? What can I learn and take forward with me in order to grow as a person?” That became that basis for the whole EP.

You’ve already had BBC Introducing support and a nomination for Best New Live Artist—how does it feel to get that recognition so early on?

It feels great! BBC Introducing is a great platform for highlighting new artists and we’re really happy that they’ve been supportive of us on our new releases. The Scottish Music Award Nomination definitely came out of the blue. Being nominated for any award is not something you’re even considering when you’ve first starting a band but of course it’s always validating to receive recognition for your work.

You’ve got a packed first half of 2025, playing alongside newshapes, Black Orchid Empire, and PAVÉ—what can fans expect from your live shows?

These upcoming shows we’re playing are particularly cool for us because we’re fans of the bands we’re supporting. We’re very excited for the date with PAVÉ as it’s our first time playing in Manchester, we’re big also fans of both newshapes and Sixth Wonder who we’ll be playing with in April. We’ll be doing a slightly shorter set than our last few shows, we’re just going for a short and slick high energy set and aim to give the crowd a good warm up.

Pop metal isn’t a sound you hear every day—how do you see the genre evolving, and where do you see Since 2000 fitting into that future?

Good question! We’ve never set out to be a part of any particular scene and we don’t want to box ourselves in to a certain sound or trend. I think we’ll just carry on making music that excites us at any given point in time, but who knows what that will be in the future!

How does your new track Shuddering stand out from other releases?

SHUDDERING is probably my favourite song we’ve released so far, it has all those different genre elements I mentioned before but pushed further to the extreme. It’s definitely the heaviest thing we’ve done by quite a stretch but it still has the danceability and catchiness that define our other songs. The lyrics are a very tongue-in-cheek look at addiction in modern society. There’s humour in the lyrics, which is new for us, but it goes hand in hand with the unhinged vibe of the song sonically.
