Introducing: SBK
London’s own SBK is back with his third album of the year, Lanardo, closing out a prolific 2024 and gearing up for his headline show this November. At just 22, SBK is redefining what it means to be a versatile artist—delving into heartbreak, mental health, and pushing his genre-blending style to new heights. From hip-hop samples to indie-pop infusions, Lanardo showcases SBK’s growth as he reveals a softer side with soulful vocals and introspective, self-affirming lyrics.
Fully self-produced, written, and engineered, this album is a pure reflection of SBK’s artistry. With a gritty, mixtape-like vibe, Lanardo blends his Grime roots with the influences of icons like Ye, Skepta, and A$AP Rocky. This release is a raw, authentic look into SBK’s journey—don’t miss the chance to experience it live.
1. "LANARDO" is your third album of the year and completely self-funded and self-produced. What were some of the biggest challenges you faced during the creation of this project, and how did you overcome them?
The biggest challenge going into this album was having no money to make the album or market it to be honest. I've done it before with the last two albums but you can only do so much without resources. I have the ability to make the music but I can't market it to the level I want to with no budget.
2. You've collaborated with UK rap legends like JME and Wiley, and you've also performed at major events like SXSW and Fashion Weeks in Paris and Milan. How have these experiences shaped your approach to making music and building your brand?
Going around the world and working with my ideals has just reinforced how talented I really am and it's enabled me to feel powerful and present, knowing there isn't a limit on what i can do.
3. Your music blends alternative rap with raw emotion, creating a unique listening experience. How do you balance staying true to your artistic vision while also exploring new sounds and pushing creative boundaries?
My artistic vision is exploring new sounds. I have always been true to myself and listening to peoples opinions has never really served me well, I'm 10 years into this career and I didn't get here by listening to everyones opinion. I have and will always do what I want to do.
4. The release of "LANARDO" is currently available for digital download and physical copies, with streaming set for later. Why did you decide to take this approach, and what do you think it brings to your connection with fans?
I've taken this approach because the fans are my record label. Streaming doesn't pay my bills or allow me to market my music better. I sell my music this way because it funds my career, and seperates the people who care about the music from the casual listeners.
5. As a young artist making waves internationally, what message do you hope to convey through "LANARDO" and your music overall?
Lanardo is my real name, and everyone always gets it wrong. I talk a lot about relationships and heartbreak on this album. So I hope it can be healing to people who have or are going through these experiences.
