Your music blends hip hop, neo soul, grime, and electronic elements. How did you develop this unique sound, and who are your biggest influences?
My biggest influences have been the likes of Tupac, Kendrick Lamar, J Dilla, Kanye, Skepta, Wiley, Bashy, Cleo Sol, Little Simz, Kojey Radical and Jay Prince. I’ve been producing my own music for around 4 years now and I feel I’m at a place where whatever I create comes off the back of these influences.
Your upcoming EP, Care Package, explores themes of self-love, determination, and sobriety. Was there a particular moment or experience that inspired this project?
When I decided to start creating an EP, I was in the midst of doing a lot of collaborations (something I love to do) however I wanted to make something that took me back to why I started making music. Exploring sounds that make me feel something and diving into topics which make me reflect or can be somewhat introspective. At the time I was at a point in my life where I wanted to set some new goals and ambitions and some of which were more personal then just making a love song or writing about what pisses me off. I wanted to write to my self and for myself. In a world where there’s so much music I wanted to curate my own space, sound and message.
The concept for your live show—a conversation between you and your younger self—is really intriguing. What do you hope audiences take away from this immersive experience?
I hope that with these live shows I can spark conversations around self reflection which I think is so important in our day and age. I want to audiences to walk away feeling revitalised and open to the idea of topics such as sobriety, therapy and general wellbeing.
Your lyrics paint a vivid picture of struggle and survival in urban Britain. How important is storytelling in your music, and what message do you want to convey through your words?
Storytelling is everything in my music. I feel like we all have our own stories to tell and I always aim to come from a place of honesty and vulnerability when telling those stories. I wish to convey a message of hope and positive affirmations with my music.
With Care Package dropping soon and a mini-tour kicking off, what’s next for you? Any dream collaborations or future projects in the works?
So after this EP and mini tour I’ve been working on a collab project with artist Zanotti. The project is called ‘Homage’ and basically is paying homage to the sounds and genres which have shaped us as artists. For us we are huge grime fans so that was the core of the project and then we began to explore different styles of writing, rapping, producing and even performance so looking forward to that! My dream collaboration would be to work with some of the bigger names in the UK, such as Little Simz, Jay Prince, Kojey Radical and with hope that can lead me to global artists too.
