Introducing: MLT

BabyStep Magazine

From local radio buzz to sharing festival stages with UK heavyweights, MLT has been steadily making his mark on the scene. A BBC Introducing artist from Bedford, his journey spans everything from early anthems on In2Beats to spins on KISS FM and Reprezent Radio. Never tied to a single genre, MLT’s music is all about feeling—if the instrumental speaks to him, he’ll write to it. With past performances alongside So Solid Crew, Stylo G, and WSTRN, and new collaborations on the horizon for 2025, MLT is proving he’s one to watch.

Q. You've been writing music for a long time but releasing it for the past five years. How has your sound evolved since you first started putting music out?

A. I have gained a lot of experience from when I started to where I am now, vocally and how to sit on an instrumental. My cadence, flow and delivery has changed drastically which has evolved my sound.

At the beginning I feel my sound was very mono tone as I didn’t have much knowledge about being a musician but after heavy research and lots of feedback from my fans and friends this quickly changed. Also changing my engineer helped too!

Q. You don't stick to a fixed genre and write based on how an instrumental feels to you. How do you approach finding the right sound for each track?

A. I have a production team who make different genres of instrumentals. They send them over to me as a beat pack, I go through them thoroughly, If I’ve got lyrics previously saved in my notes that fit with that specific sound then we run with it. Usually lyrics naturally come to mind when I hear a beat!

Q. Your track Back Then caught the attention of BBC Introducing, leading to live play and interviews. How did that moment impact your career, and what did it mean to you?

A. Having my song played on BBC introducing was a dream come true and then to be personally invited to be interviewed by Edward Adoo, I was lost for words! This all gave me the confidence to keep going with my music career which led to more fantastic opportunities. I have just signed a single deal with ‘Married To The Music’.

Q. You've performed at major events like the Original Culture Festival alongside artists like So Solid Crew and Donae'o. What was that experience like, and how does performing live shape your artistry?

A. Performing at the Original Culture Festival was my first major performance. Being apart of this was a big stepping stone for my music career, it helped me gain stage presence and crowd interaction which shapes my artistry today.

Q. You're set to release new music with other Introducing artists in 2025. Can you share any details about upcoming collaborations or what fans can expect from your new work?

A. I am working on an Ep called ‘Music lives through’ which will have collaborations with S1 and Big Scoop. There will be a Vibez remix on this Ep with S.A.M and another artist yet to be confirmed. You will definitely hear some Bedford artists on a grime beat, plus one for the ladies, so look out for those!
