Introducing: imasleep

We sat down with the band to discuss Cobalt, their creative process, and the momentum propelling their musical awakening.

Your debut album Cobalt is described as a photo album of memories, capturing pivotal moments in your lives. Can you share a specific memory or experience that shaped one of the tracks on the album?

The first song created before the band even existed was Cheesy. During a group homework assignment at the School of Modern Music in Wrocław, Karol and Filip teamed up, composed the initial chords for Cheesy, and, as the story goes, sparks flew right away. In truth, this was the very beginning of imasleep—though they had no idea at the time.

The single „Awake” represents an energetic awakening from a melancholic slumber. How does this track set the tone for the rest of the album, and what message do you want listeners to take from it?

Through the other, more subtle tracks on the album, we wanted to show that emotional depth is not the only message we aim to convey to listeners. The energy of the track also serves as an analogy for the momentum we are building, as we feel we are gradually unleashing our potential.

Nostalgia plays a significant role in Cobalt, but there’s also a hint of madness. How do you balance emotional depth with the energy and momentum you’re gaining as a band?

Our songs come straight from the heart and reflect many significant moments in our lives. In our daily lives, we’re quite crazy and love to joke around, but as Karol once beautifully said, the only times we’re truly serious are when we step onto the stage or create music. Those are the moments when we’re fully immersed in our art.

What’s more, each of us comes from a different musical background—Karol started with rap music, Filip with metal, and Aleksandra with classical music. This blend allows us to achieve a balance, a sense of cohesion, and at the same time, a unique diversity in our work.

You’ve invited listeners to let these songs accompany their own important moments. Are there any fan stories or interactions that have shown how your music has resonated with others?

After our concerts, we often hear that our music has touched deeply buried emotions listeners weren’t even aware of—something they frequently thank us for. It’s incredibly heartwarming because, in a way, each of us secretly dreams of this when creating music.

No one has proposed at one of our concerts or while listening to our songs (as far as we know!), but a few people have told us that some of our tracks lifted their spirits, especially during bouts of autumn blues.

As you continue to unleash your potential, what’s next for imasleep? Are there any upcoming projects, live performances, or collaborations we should look forward too?

We have a few exciting things up our sleeves, definitely worth the wait. Some of them are still under wraps, but one of the most important is our upcoming second album. It will be a concept album that tells a really personal story. We absolutely can’t wait, and we can already say that it’s going to be a truly special project.
