Introducing: Anthony Hughes

Music is a journey that brings together the sounds and styles of the artists we admire. As I prepared to release my new single, which features soulful vocals over a vibrant drum and bass beat, I reflected on four key artists who have significantly influenced me the last few years: MNEK, Becky Hill, Kelli Leigh, and Sub Focus. Each of these artists have had a massive influence on my sound, how I write and I'm also a big fan of all of them.(maybe a collar one day wink wink)

1. MNEK – Head and Heart

MNEK’s “Head and Heart” for example brings a blend of emotive lyrics and catchy melodies that really resonated with me. The song's soulful, combined with its catchy AF beat of Joel Corry definitely inspired me to embrace a similar fusion in my work. MNEK’s ability to convey deep emotion while keeping the energy high is something I strive to replicate in my new single. I love his vocal so much and I'm also inspired by him.

2. Becky Hill – Disconnect

Becky Hill’s “Disconnect” perfectly captures absolute vulnerability but within an upbeat track. Her vocal performance, raw and bold and authentic lyrics resonate deeply with my own experiences. This song has taught me the importance of connecting emotionally with my audience while also delivering energy for days. For my new single,Out your life,  I aim to capture that same blend of raw emotion and high energy, ensuring that listeners feel both uplifted and understood. Becky Hill always fits the assignment!

3. Kelli Leigh- Unconditional

Kelli Leigh’s “Unconditional” is a proper showcase of powerful vocal artistry and heartfelt lyrics. Inspired by her focus on authenticity and connection, I find myself always drawn to the way she communicates love and resilience through her music.Not only that, she is so damn musical and has a voice that you won’t forget one day soon. In my new single, I aim to channel that soulfulness, integrating important lyrics into a modern context.

4. Sub Focus

Sub Focus is known for his innovative production and ability to fuse genres, particularly within the drum and bass realm. His mastery of beats and choices has significantly influenced my musical style, especially that they’ve always been a dream collab. I’m really wanting to show how blending soulful vocals with energetic production works and I always feel this in his music and the artists he features and writes with. 

My new single pays homage to this style, as I incorporate driving rhythms alongside melodic soulfulness.

Conclusion As I continue to hone my craft, I aim to honor these influences while developing my own distinct voice in the music industry. I am excited for listeners to experience the soulful yet upbeat journey I’ve crafted in my new single and my future dance releases this year.
