From performing at KOKO Camden, The Jazz Cafe, and Cross The Tracks Festival to sharing stages with 6lack and Dylan Sinclair, her impact is undeniable.
With co-signs from legends like Timbaland and interviews with icons such as John Legend, Bruno Mars, and Victoria Monét, Victoria Jane is not just shaping the future of soul—she is the future of soul.
Your music is described as "for the soul" with relatable lyricism and buttery vocals. What inspires your songwriting, and how do you approach creating music that resonates deeply with listeners?
My songwriting is inspired by people and stories really. Stories of my own and stories from people around me. I like to write songs about experience and about things we can all relate to in some way, but still leaving the subject of the song to the listeners interpretation. I would also say other artists influence my writing. I love deep diving into song lyrics and learning about the intricacies of the record. I’ve been trying recently to be more vulnerable about my own emotions in my songwriting and I hope that reflects.
From hosting Radio 1’s Future Soul Show to creating ‘Vic Meets,’ you’ve built a platform for emerging artists. What motivated you to champion new talent, and what has been the most rewarding moment in this journey so far?
Being an artist myself was the biggest driving force. I know how hard it is to be noticed in the music scene, and how tough it is to be recognised outside of London. I wanted to create a space where I can not only showcase music and artists I love but a space to do more and put on workshops, events and really highlight talent. There’s not enough things in place in the industry to champion and push talent from the ground up, most things are geared to artists that are already established so VicMeets was made to push both. The most rewarding moment was definitely putting on the Vic Meets… LIVE events in London and Manchester. I was able to showcase some incredibly talented artists and that was what it was all about.
You’ve performed at some of the UK’s most iconic venues and festivals and even received a co-sign from Timbaland. What has been the most defining moment of your career as an artist so far?
The biggest moment for me was supporting / opening up for 6lack in my hometown in Manchester at O2 Apollo. My sister had already bought a ticket to the gig prior so to get the opportunity to open the show was such a massive thing to me. It just goes to show that you can really do anything and you don’t have to wait for opportunities to come to you but you can go and get them. Such a powerful surreal day for me. I’ll always be thankful to 6lack and his team for supporting emerging artists like me.
As a presenter, you’ve interviewed some of the biggest names in R&B. Who has been your most memorable interview, and what’s one surprising or inspiring moment that stands out from those conversations?
Ah i’ve had so many great conversations. I would say one of my favourites had to be interviewing Daniel Caesar. I’ve always been such a lover of his music so I was already super gassed to speak to him. It was so organic and a great conversation and I got some great insight to his music and what makes him him.
Balancing a music career, radio hosting, and event curation is no small feat. How do you navigate these different creative roles, and what’s next for you in 2025?
I get this question so much! You know what it’s not easy but I love everything I do and I think that’s key in anything. You can do like 10 different things and that would be hard work but it will align and make sense if you truly love what you do. I don’t know what’s round the corner. I’m going through a lot of life changes right now, but I know God has a plan for me and i’m excited to be on the journey I currently am.
