Getting To Know: Marvins Revenge

Nottingham-based trio Marvin’s Revenge are back with their latest single, "Hugs From Grandma," showcasing a newfound melodic edge while staying true to their trademark barrage of gritty guitar noise. The track is anthemic and upbeat, yet still dives deep into darker themes like depression. Known for their chaotic energy, Marvin’s Revenge continue to evolve, blending influences from grunge and hardcore with a fresh, modern twist. As they gear up for their biggest headline show in Nottingham, the band is ready to make even more noise across the UK.

1. "Hugs From Grandma" blends an upbeat, melodic sound with deeper themes like depression. What inspired this contrast, and how do you navigate combining catchy pop hooks with more introspective subject matter in your songwriting?

“We wanted to combine a feel good hit of the summer with the feeling of wanting to die.” –

Luke Eaton (bass/vocals)

2. The story behind "Big Snake" is quite unique, focusing on a snake roaming the streets and eating people. What was the creative process behind developing this concept, and how does it connect to the angsty, noisy vibe of the track?

“I wanted to write a song about a big snake eating me, so I did.” – Luke

3. "Eating Flowers" shows a more vulnerable side of your music, while still retaining Marvin's Revenge's signature heavy sound. How did this track mark an evolution in your songwriting, and what prompted you to explore this more sensitive direction?

It started off as the classic soft grunge trope, I think we were taking the piss a bit, but it came out being something different and we liked that.” – Job

4. You’re often compared to legendary bands like Fugazi, The Jesus Lizard, and Pixies. How do you incorporate those influences into your sound while ensuring Marvin's Revenge remains distinct and original?

“We would try to rip off Neil Diamond or Elliot Smith instead, but none of them work with a

Derbyshire accent” – Luke
