Getting To Know: Amber Burgoyne

With a sound that blends soul, jazz, and folk, Amber Burgoyne is carving out her own space in the UK music scene. Her latest single, Different Kind of Lonely, follows the success of My Head Will Be Back Around Noon-a Spotify Jazz UK favorite with over a million streams. She’s captivated audiences at legendary venues like Ronnie Scott’s and Brighton Dome, and now, with her upcoming EP Stages set for release in March 2025, she’s ready to take things even further. Amber’s signature mix of smooth acoustic guitar, heartfelt storytelling, and a voice that “melts your heart” makes her an artist to watch.

1. Your single, Different Kind of Lonely, dropped towards the end of 2024, can tell us a bit about the inspiration behind it and what it represents for you?

I wrote the song back when I was 17, I felt lonely quite a lot as teenagers do, with the way I was feeling and my thoughts, I had friends around me so I was never really alone. I think we have all felt that way at some point. It speaks to the slightly sadder side of myself, wanting to feel loved and ending up feeling alone or othered.

2. Your music beautifully blends soul, jazz, and folk influences. Who are some of the artists that have shaped your sound the most?

I have a huge connection to Simon and Garfunkel through my Mum and a connection to the Fugees and Lauryn Hill through my Dad. This is just my perception as I believe all artists were shared in our home.

My grandma often listened to Roberta Flack and Aretha Franklin. Throughout the years different artists that I would be listening to at the time would influence the music I was writing, the clothes I was wearing, this would change consistently from year to year, month to month.

2. You've had some incredible milestones, from over a million streams on Spotify to playing at venues like Ronnie Scott’s. What have been some of the standout moments in your career so far?

I appreciate you saying this. I have never been aware of these being incredible milestones, because I’m always looking towards the next. I have never reflected upon these moments, one of the best times I’ve had would be being invited to play on stage with The Parisian band Limousine in Paris. That was a moment when I felt most appreciated and loved as an artist. It was when I felt that the art and the artist really mattered to the audience, was a beautiful evening and felt honoured to share the stage with them.

3. Your upcoming EP Stages is set for release in May 2025. What can listeners expect from this project, and how does it differ from your previous work?

Well this is my debut EP, I have never released a body of work before so it’s really exciting for me! It is about the different Stages of my time, saying goodbye to a younger version of myself. Some brand new songs never heard before, one of them written with piano which is new for me. Each song is in order of when it was written, so I would love people to listen to it as a whole piece.

4. Is there any upcoming releases we can look forward to?

The EP will be the next release! Very excited to share it with you all.
