Elle L: Avant-Garde Pop’s Ethereal New Voice

With vocals described as "so delicate they could smash into a thousand pieces" (Wonderland), Elle L is redefining pop with her breathtakingly avant-garde sound. Her latest single, Come Inside, is a hypnotic exploration of existential curiosity, blending deep bass with her glass-like vocal hooks to create a listening experience as emotional as it is otherworldly. Drawing comparisons to icons like Kate Bush, Chappell Roan, and FKA Twigs, Elle L is undeniably one to watch in 2025.

Elle L’s artistry transcends music. A creative director, activist, and advocate for regenerative fashion, she seamlessly fuses her passions into her work, from featuring in British Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar to collaborating with the United Nations on environmental and kindness initiatives. Whether performing at Lagos Fashion Week or curating responsible lifestyle content for her 93k social media followers, Elle L is a multi-dimensional force leading by example. With placements on playlists like Apple Music’s Future Hits and Spotify’s New Music Friday, and her debut EP on the horizon, Elle L’s star is rising fast. As Notion aptly put it, she’s “undeniably set for stardom.”

"Come Inside" has been described as avant-garde and deeply inspired by nature and existential curiosity. Can you tell us more about the story and creative process behind the track?

I tend to write in a stream of consciousness — lyrics and melodies flow organically through when I’m in the state. I don’t try to construct anything too much. I think this process naturally creates something more abstract. “Come Inside” is inspired by interconnection and there’s a hook that weaves throughout — ’mycelium’. Mycelium networks connect all living things. The song taps into my curiosity about the origins of life. It’s existential pop. The concept reflects welcoming new life and love. It’s abstract, soulful and a bit deep. Sometimes it’s not until I finish a song that I reverse the creative process and really understand what I’ve written about… it always begins with a feeling and an open heart.

Your vocals have been likened to artists like Kate Bush and FKA Twigs. How do you navigate these comparisons while staying true to your own unique sound?

The high notes and timbre of my vocal is what maybe draws the parallels to those artists, both of who I respect artistically. I think also the quirkiness of my writing can also draw some parallels too. Ultimately, my lower range is sonically quite different and I layer my sound a bit like a painting and that in itself creates a unique sound.

I’m not directly influenced by other artists when it comes to my writing. For me the art is about the being open to creating from scratch, without writing anything down first. I ad lib ideas directly on the mic and for me that’s the best way to keep everything authentic.

You've seamlessly blended music, activism, and creative direction in your career. How do these roles influence one another, and what drives your work with initiatives like the United Nations on kindness and environmental projects?

Artists are communicators. I think art can be a progressive and beautiful tool for expressing thought provoking narratives. With any sort of platform, I also feel there’s a responsibility to advocate for kindness and support causes that can make the planet healthier and happier. I think my purpose beyond music is to support people, brands and NGOs that are making a difference, and protecting future generations.

From performing at Lagos Fashion Week to creating music for Netflix and Lacoste, your artistry spans multiple platforms. How do you approach maintaining authenticity across such diverse creative ventures?

One of the most beautiful things about creating music is when your sound synchronised to moving image. Seeing the emotions that come to life when your sound unites with visuals is one of the most magical feelings. All of those experiences have added a different dimension to my music.

With your debut EP set for release in Spring 2025, what can listeners expect in terms of themes, sound, and your vision for the future of your music?

Expect the unexpected - my next project is synth based avant-pop. It will take full circle you into a spectrum of emotions, but also there are some fun elements too. I want to be the soundtrack to your happy tears on the dance floor. Magna LV, my production project will also have a new single out early next year that I am super excited for — it’s emotional deep dance! I am just finishing everything up in the studio at the moment, so stay tuned to my socials to find out more
