DJ Lee Lee: The Genre-Blending Powerhouse Keeping Dance Floors Alive

With an electrifying presence behind the decks, DJ Lee Lee is a force to be reckoned with. Effortlessly blending Afrobeats, Amapiano, Rap, R&B, Bashment, and Reggae, she takes audiences on an unforgettable sonic journey, keeping dance floors packed from start to finish. From Brixton Jamm to Shoreditch Box Park, her high-energy sets have made her one of London’s most sought-after DJs.

Beyond the club scene, Lee Lee is also a radio presenter on Croydon FM, where she curates playlists with the same passion that fuels her live performances. In this interview, we dive into her musical influences, her rise in the DJ scene, and what’s next for the unstoppable DJ Lee Lee.

1. Your sets seamlessly blend Afrobeats, Amapiano, Rap, R&B, Bashment, and Reggae. How do you approach curating a mix that keeps the energy high while catering to different audiences?

I approach it by having fun creating each mix because the way I view it is if I’m not enjoying it, how could anyone else? Music is energy, and I want to give good energy out through all my mixes. I select the tracks by making sure I connect with them personally, thinking how the audience would like the mix through the different genres and what reaction I think they would have listening to it.

2. You’ve played at some of London’s most iconic venues, from Pop Brixton to Shoreditch Box Park. What’s been your most memorable performance so far, and what made it stand out?

That’s a really good question. Each performance has been impactful on my DJ journey for many reasons. I enjoyed them all, I learnt so much about djing and to not let my anxiety get the best of me. What I have learnt the most is to live in the moment, and I have come so far. One of the memorable performances I had was at Pop Brixton because I loved the reaction I was getting from the crowd, it was a vibe!

3. Your love for music started at an early age. Who were some of your biggest musical influences growing up, and how have they shaped your style as a DJ?

I had so many growing up! I was always listening to music, from different genres as a child such as Mauritian music, R&B, Rap and more. Some of my earliest musical influences were Aaliyah, Mariah Carey, Destiny Child etc, and I was always excited getting to watch 90s and 2000 R&B videos on MTV and listening to Choice FM on the way to school.

4. Alongside live performances, you’re also a radio presenter at Croydon FM. How does being on the airwaves differ from playing live, and how do you bring your personality into both spaces?

Playing live you get the instant reaction from people which is fun because you don’t know what type of reaction you will get, they can give you good energy and you can give them good energy back. I bring my personality into this space by using the mic communicating with the audience, having conversations with them and wheeling up songs that they we both enjoyed the most. Whereas on radio most of the time there is less indication whether the audience enjoyed it unless it is through the WhatsApp chat or social media comments. This is a different type of interaction, but you can still communicate through the mic by shouting them out and responding to their WhatsApp messages live on air through the mic.

5. What’s next for DJ Lee Lee? Are there any upcoming projects, collaborations, or events that fans should keep an eye out for?

Definitely playing more live shows, having guests on my show, more collaborations with other DJ’s and creating my own music. Of course, you can follow my journey on my Instagram @itsleelee_ to see more updates.
