Darcy Blu: The Songs That Shaped My Sound

Darcy Blu wrote Read My Mind out of frustration over her crush not seeming to return her feelings. It’s a cheeky, flirtatious lighthearted anthem about unrequited love, something we’ve all felt, even if we don’t admit it. Not only just inspired by unrequited crushes, Blu was also inspired by the following artists when making this track with producer NYPE. Read My Mind will be out on 7th March 2025 on all music platforms.

Kylie Minogue – Cant Get You Out Of My Head

Kylie Minogue has always been a musical inspiration for me, I have my Dad and his good music taste to thank for that. She was the first artist I ever saw live when I was 7, and then my sister had a 'pop star party,' and I dressed up as Kylie Minogue. She’s been influencing my music since then and probably always will. I absolutely love the flirtatious yet honest lyrics of "Can't Get You Out of My Head." It's unapologetic and so relatable—something I hope to channel throughout Read My Mind. The beginning “la la la” in Read My Mind is a subtle nod to my Kylie inspiration

Dua Lipa – "Levitating."

This entire album got me through lockdown, but "Levitating" especially hit me. The production, combined with her powerful vocals and the uplifting lyrics, gave me all the energy I needed. I remember thinking that when I got

out of lockdown and back into the studio, this is exactly the kind of music I wanted to make. I met NYPE a year later at Tileyard Studios and when he started playing the bassline of Read My Mind unknowingly, the whole song just came together super quickly.

Griff – Black Hole

I find all of Griff's catalogue inspiring, from her production to her lyrics and the harmonies she chooses. I really wanted Read My Mind to have that same sense of honesty and realism that she captures in her music. Making Read My Mind with my good friend NYPE made the process so much smoother—we were just having fun,no pressure, and the song came together super organically.

Bea and her business – Safety Net

I love Bea’s authenticity in her music, especially in "Safety Net." I really wanted Read My Mind to feel just as authentic. The vibe I was going for was honest, playful, and real. To capture that, I added little touches like ad-libs—“hello, where are you?!”— and real-life samples of me laughing, to give it that playful, crush-like energy and make it feel like the real experience of having a crush.
