Evanescence - My Immortal
Evanescence is a band I've been a big fan of since the release of their debut album Fallen in 2003 when I was in my early teens. The lead singer Amy Lee's compositions of their piano tracks such as My Immortal is very much influenced me to start composing my own music, with their style still audible in my music today, in tracks such as Ocean which has darker classical elements.
Ludovico Einaudi - Experience
An artist I would frequently listen to whilst writing my dreaded dissertation at University in Bath. Ludovicos music has probably inspired me the most, and whose sound is very similar to my own. In fact, one of my musical ambitions is to one day be a kind of successor to his work. His album In a Time Lapse has been very influential in my style of writing, using several melodies in one piece which build in intensity as you progress through the track, which work
together to paint emotion in the form of sound, like in his track Experience.
Olafur Arnalds - Happiness Does Not Wait (2013)
I'm a big fan of his work and especially love his track Happiness Does Not Wait and the use of strings with the piano which mirror and talk to each other. I have tried to implement this into my own music on a number of occasions by using layers of piano.
Max Richter – Spring 1
My favourite music of Max Richters comes from his album Recomposed - Vivaldi, Four Seasons in particular & Spring. Much of his music isn't piano based, but I draw a lot of inspiration from listening to it, and I find it helps me when thinking new ideas, especially when writing for film.
