carina returns with brilliant new single 'waste me away (demo)'
Our tune of the day comes courtesy of Carina. The latest offering from the unique artist takes another refreshingly honest venture deep into her mind. Opening with a melodic almost lullaby-esque tone, the track is guided by the artist’s voice and explores themes of vulnerability with a stripped-back soulful quality. When discussing the track, carina explains: “The song is very personal to me, I’ve been sitting on this one for a long time, waiting for the right time to put it out. It’s me in my purest form and I’m ready to share it with the world.”
For a while carina battled with her mental health and deep rooted feelings of disassociation, as a result, music became the perfect outlet. Her music has since become an extension of her, essentially narrating her life – she initially began writing through the tragic death of her best friend which evolved into stories of heartache and navigating life as a teenager – and so becoming the prolific songwriter she is today. Having recently played at Soho House’s ‘Future First’ event, since the release of her breakout debut EP ‘spaceout!’, the artist has seen some major press highlights, catching the attention of Steve Lamacq’s BBC Radio 6 show, BBC Radio 1’s Jamz Supernova, BBC Introducing, Clash, Notion, New Wave and more. Her work is self-reflective and with a maturity way beyond her years, she notes that she’s: “an old soul expressing her experience from the lens of a young person’s view.” 2023 is set to be a big breakout year for carina.
